‘See My Trainers’ has been one of my most loved and talked about designs since I first graduated from art school. It has won me more than one job (including a year living and designing in Italy!), and it is definitely one of my personal favourites.
And so, I have decided its time for more! I am going to create a new piece of art and some designs on this theme and this time I need your help, and most importantly, your trainers!
I plan to create a new, 3D version of ‘See My Trainers’ but this time it will be entitled ‘See Your Trainers’. Thanks to some kind friends and family I have started to amass a growing collection of once much loved trainers. But I need more!
If you would like to see your old (or new) trainers immortalised please drop me and email and I’ll send you full details of where to send them.
Sketches and doodles and designs will follow and some lovely prints that you could own featuring your sneakers!

The Edinburgh Festival has wrapped up for another year and Autumn is creeping in. Time for some soulful tunes and Jazz sounds to keep the party going.
The Queen’s Hall has a great line up for the Autumn months and as always the bands and performers cover a wide range of musical styles and sounds. So when The Queen’s Hall asked me if I would like to produce a further collection of designs for their brochure and publicity material I jumped at the chance and suggested that this time we take the designs in a slightly new direction. (See last year’s illustrations here!)
To reflect the eclectic mix of music offered at The Queen’s Hall the next four illustrations are each telling the story of a different musical genre. Starting with the Autumn season inspired by New Orleans Jazz bands, smokey bars and charleston girls, over the next 12 months I will be doodling, painting and drawing along to the sounds of Classical, Rock, Roots & World music. - I can’t wait!
To get the party started here is Jazz for 2010! Stick the Hot 8 Brass Band on Spotify and enjoy

Sorry for the delay in letting you all know how the launch party for my solo exhibition went a few weeks ago! I have been so busy since then, popping in to check how my pieces are - rehanging one or two and finally putting in place the gorgeous large scale prints of The Queen’s Hall bespoke designs. (which should have been there on opening night! Its a long story involving angry emails and a little bit of panicking!)
Anyway, it is all in place now and looking good. Thank you to everyone who made it on opening night including some wonderful friends who surprised me by travelling through especially for the party after sending apologies earlier in the week
The highlight of the night came in the form of a mini fashion show to present my collaboration with wonderful Scottish fashion designer Deanna Mclauchlan of Dresar Studio. Gorgeous models from Manequin Model Agency strutted their stuff after a dramatic reveal and showed off the three Carlene Edwards & Dresar Studio dresses. Thank you so much to Rachel, Hayley and Alana who worked so hard and did a fantastic job showing off the garments and mingling and chatting with the crowd.
If you didn’t make it for the party the show is open until Saturday 4th September.

Now for me its back to the drawing board for new designs and commissions and a special little art project…

Just a few days till hanging begins for my exhibition at The Queen’s Hall. Prints are printed, dresses are being sewn, models booked, almost there…
I couldn’t believe it when I got an email last week from Nicola More saying that Nicky Evans (Shane Maguire) and Ciaron Griffiths (Micky Maguire) were on set for filming Shameless and the guys were going to have their photos taken for my show! Here is one of the shots of Shane. Pop along to my launch night to see the rest of the shoot and some more of my work.

I have been working round the clock these last few weeks, printing, framing, having hectic meetings involving the lovely Deanna Mclauchlan (fashion designer), my 9 month old daughter Alaida and her lovely Nana! - Not the usual mix at a meeting to plan a collection of one off dresses, but good fun! This is all in preperation for my vey first solo exhibition which will be held this summer at The Queen’s Hall.
Along with the four illustrations created specially for The Queen’s Hall, the exhibition will feature a wide range of my work to date, including t-shirts seen on Channel 4’s award winning shows Peep Show and Shameless; creations for the Italian design house Friulprint (used by fashion houses such as Vivienne Westwood and featured in Elle magazine and Collezioni Trends); original sketches and fashion garments made in collaboration with up and coming young Scottish designer Deanna Mclauchlan.
I am proud to announce the opening night for the show will be Friday 30th July at The Queen’s Hall on Clerk St, Edinburgh. From 6.30 - 8pm you can come along and get involved in the interactive art wall known as the Scribble Wall, listen to the live Scribble DJs and have a little drink while you check out the ecclectic mix of fashion, illustration, prints and photography that is my work to date.
Big thanks to Stuart Cosgrove and Nicola More at Channel 4, Andy Catlin at The Queen’s Hall, Calum at Giclee Uk and the talented artists and DJs from Scribble!
Hope to see you there!

Tonight anyone hanging out in Dundee and looking for something cool to see and do should pop round to see the first Guerrilla Gallery at the Hannah Maclure Centre, Abertay University, Bell Street, Dundee, 8pm til late.
I’ve been really busy sorting things out for my first solo exhibition at The Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh, (details of opening night coming soon) but when a good friend of mine emailed me to let me know about this cool show I couldn’t resist.
I am pleased to be amoung the artists exhibiting work at the first Guerilla Gallery night, an event aimed at bringing together creative talent and promoting collaboration amoung artists and creatives.
The night will be an exciting mix of live projected drawing, live music, VJ and DJ sets.
Should be fun!

I’m proud to report that the lovely people at Scottish networking website 38 minutes have selected one of my designs to use as the banner on their site.
38 minutes is a great place to meet fellow creatives, exchange ideas and learn about whats new in the world of design and new media. Since being in Scotland I’ve met lots of great people at 38 minutes and picked up commissions along the way.
Thanks to Nicola More for selecting Electric Paisley to represent 38 minutes!

Ok, so I have been a little distracted over the last little while, from the world of doodles and designing by a wonderful little person who has been keeping me pretty busy and very happy.
Alaida and I have just had a chat and we think its time for me to delve back into the inky, chalky and messy madness of designing cool stuff!
With a big thanks to Alaida’s lovely Nana Mary I will now be getting back to work and I am looking forward to getting started on new t-shirt designs, a challenging new commission for The Queen’s Hall, my first solo exhibition and covering as many surfaces and bodies as possible with my designs.
In the next few posts I will catch you up with some bits and pieces that have come out while I was playing peek-a-boo and in the meantime I’ll get cracking on some brand new visual treats too

I am proud to introduce my daughter Alaida to you all. She arrived two and a half weeks early on 12th October and is a really happy and healthy little girl.
She is keeping me and her Dad very busy just now so I’m taking a little time out from work. There are a few projects that I’ve worked on over the last few months that I will keep you up to date on with a few blog posts here and there.
For now I’ll leave you with this picture of Alaida on her first day at home. Happy days!

All the major elements of the first of a series of illustrations I have done for The Queen’s Hall are out now! This includes the fabulous large scale banners at the front of the venue, see piccies here, virtual wallpaper and logos on The Queen’s Hall website, Twitter, and Flickr accounts and now these gorgeous brochures.
Andy Catlin, Marketing Manager at The Queen’s Hall, approached me a couple of months ago to ask me to design four illustrations around the theme of musical instruments for The Queen’s Hall to use in their promotional material and online. You can catch up on the back story and how this fiddles design developed here and here.
Of course this design is only the first of the four illustrations which will be used throughout the following year, culminating with the final design for the Festival 2010 edition of the brochure out next August.
A personal note
You might notice my blogs become a little more irregular over the next few months as I have now officially started maternity leave and my mind and time will be focused on preparing and getting used to life as a new mum. I’ll definitely keep you posted as the projects and collaborations that I have been working on up till now make the jump into the real world with a few blogs here and there. I might even put up some piccies of the creative bits and pieces I plan to make for the baby. For now, I’m off to put my feet up and think about making curtains decorated with little white fluffy sheep…
